Hi, my name is Lori Wilson. I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist who specializes in treating fertility in San Diego, California.
While studying pre-med at the University California Santa Cruz, I began to experience horribly painful periods. I was diagnosed with dysmenorrhea (painful periods) and prescribed the usual anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxers. But each and every month without fail, I would lose 3-4 days to pain and recovery. I could not live this way, planning every month around when I would get my period. I wanted to be free from the pain all together not just mask its expression every month. That is when I found acupuncture. Within three months of treatment my cramps were gone and my periods were normal again. I can’t explain how exhilarating it was to be pain free. I had my life back and a new sense of purpose, to become an acupuncturist.
Since then, I graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine with a Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. My passion has always been women’s health and fertility. As may seem natural, this passion has now blossomed to include male fertility, pregnancy and postpartum health. It is important to understand every step of making a family, and I feel blessed to be able to take part in this wonderful life-changing process with my patients.
Ironically enough, even after years of studying fertility, when it was time for me to start a family, I had fertility issues of my own. I now have an acupuncture baby myself. I can attest to the magic and wonder of my own medicine. Without it, I would not have the joyous title of ‘mom’. Although challenging, this experience has allowed me greater compassion and understanding for my fertility patients. I understand how difficult it is each and every month when your period arrives and you aren’t pregnant, I have been there.
I work with natural fertility or Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART), such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). I sat on the board of RESOLVE, the National Infertility Association, for the local San Diego chapter and have helped coordinate their educational programs. I am confident acupuncture alone or in combination with this technology, works wonders to increase your chances of pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Today I am honored to have a thriving practice that treats all people, wherever they are in life. I love what I do and am fortunate to be able to share this medicine for the benefit of others. I feel it is important to empower my patients through education on what they can do to improve their daily lives whether for fertility or other ailments.
